Dining

Our dining experience at The Ashton is shaped by the people who live here. From homemade cakes and smoothies to personalised menus and additional support for those who need extra help, every part of our approach is centred around care, dignity and choice. Every quarter, we hold a food forum where residents can sit down with the kitchen team and share their views. They also help shape the activity calendar, including our weekly baking club, where sweet treats are made and enjoyed together.

We recognise the significance of a well-balanced meal in terms of general health and well-being. We regularly change our menus while keeping familiar favourites, to help ensure residents look forward to every meal time. The food presented caters to all of our residents, including the option of hot and cold alternatives, as well as food that is soft and easy-to-eat.

First-Class Dining Every Day

The kitchen at The Ashton is led by our long-standing head chef, who’s been part of the home for over 10 years. Supported by a dedicated cook and experienced kitchen assistants, the team brings warmth, skill and consistency to every meal. From cooked breakfasts and hearty lunches to homemade snacks, everything is made with attention to both taste and nutrition.

We follow a seasonal menu which adapts throughout the year, offering comforting dishes alongside lighter, balanced options. Our menu includes a variety of choices while upholding favourite dishes including including fish and chips on a Friday (we also have it takeaway once a month as per resident request) and Sunday roast dinners, where the meat changes regularly. We have beautiful, inviting dining areas available 24 hours a day, though meals can be taken anywhere in the home, depending on what suits each resident best.

Catering for all Dietary & Cultural Requirements

Our Chef meticulously considers all allergies, cultural preferences and nutritional requirements when preparing menus, ensuring that each meal is suited for everyone. We endeavour to meet our residents’ tastes, whether they request vegetarian, pescatarian or vegan diets. We go above and beyond to learn about our residents’ likes and dislikes and do everything we can to accommodate their choices. At The Ashton Care Home, we strive to meet all dietary and cultural needs so residents can live their lives entirely their way.

Pop-up restaurant nights are also a favourite at The Ashton. These themed evenings give our residents something different to enjoy and often spark memories and conversation. Whether it’s an international taste or a nod to a favourite decade, food is used here as a way of connecting and celebrating.

Supporting a Variety of Needs

For residents with additional needs, we offer a calm and structured dining experience that’s both respectful and reassuring. Smaller group dining, extra staff support, and close oversight mean no one is rushed or overlooked. The team are trained to spot subtle signs that someone may need support, and always step in with kindness.

Our chef is fully IDDSI trained, ensuring meals for those with texture-modified diets are not only safe but also appetising and well presented. We use adapted and colour-contrasting crockery to support independence and dignity at every stage.

Our dining approach is truly person-centred and a dignity-based experience. Our compassionate team are dedicated to ensuring mealtimes are a time of joy for each individual who resides with us. Whether they wish to eat with others in their community, in their bedroom, in our lounges or outside when the weather permits, we can support residents in every way.
