A Magical Afternoon with Owl Adventures

There was a real sense of wonder in the air at Davenport this week as residents enjoyed a truly special visit from Owl Adventures. The afternoon brought a mix of excitement, joy and gentle curiosity, as the beautiful bird of prey made themselves at home in our lounge and bedrooms, much to the delight of everyone here.
The visit began with the arrival of a charming little owl, who stole the hearts of residents and staff alike. What made this part of the afternoon especially touching was the way the little owl was able to visit those residents who aren't able to leave their beds. It quietly perched beside them, seemingly enjoying the attention and offering a rare moment of close connection with nature. Seeing the smiles on residents’ faces and the spark of joy in their eyes was something quite special for all of our team.
Next came the striking barn owl, who flew through the Davenport lounge while our residents gasped in amazement underneath. We all watched in awe as it silently flapped its wings and circled our heads.

But it was the Harris hawk who uniquely stole the show. After a short flight around the lounge, he chose an unexpected resting spot on the back of our lovely resident Shirley’s chair. Much to Shirley’s amusement, he settled in quite comfortably, causing plenty of laughter and sparking a lively conversation that continued long after the birds had left.
The visit from Owl Adventures was more than just an entertaining afternoon. It was an uplifting experience that brought our residents together and offered a refreshing change of pace, which was a real reminder of how meaningful these shared moments can be in creating joy and connection within our home.
We’re always looking for ways to bring happiness, companionship and a little magic into our residents’ daily lives. If you’d like to learn more about life at The Ashton and how we support residents with engaging activities and a true sense of community, we’d be delighted to show you around.
