One of our new projects at The Ashton Care Home is based around Choirs in Care Homes.

This is run by Sandra from Sharing Precious Memories. Sharing Precious Memories is a non-profit organisation focusing on providing advice and support for people living with dementia and their carers.

Singing and music can be incredibly beneficial for those living with dementia. Studies have shown that music can help improve mood, decrease anxiety and agitation, and even improve cognitive function in people with dementia. This is because music has the ability to tap into emotional and memory paths in the brain, allowing individuals to connect with the music and evoke positive memories and emotions.

Singing can also be particularly helpful as it encourages social interaction and communication, which can be challenging for those with dementia. Additionally, music and singing can provide a sense of purpose and joy, enhancing the overall quality of life for individuals living with dementia.

The choir is open to all our residents, their loved ones and our care teams so we are hoping that some of them will join us for regular singing sessions.

Sandra will be coming in for the next few weeks to set us up with the songs for residents, relatives and staff to then practice going forward, and eventually perform to the rest of the home.
